Zion Lutheran Church is a parish of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the largest Lutheran denomination in the United States. The ELCA is a community of faith that shares a passion for making positive changes throughout our country and the world. Our faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service, and education, we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God’s grace in our lives.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is comprised of over 10,000 parishes and 4.6 million members in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
Zion Lutheran Church is part of the New England Synod of the ELCA. The word “synod” means “a way together” and is used as a term describing one of sixty-five geographical groupings of congregations in the ELCA.
The New England Synod is comprised of 192 congregations and 77,000 members in an area spanning from Long Island Sound to the U.S.-Canada border and from the New York-Massachusetts border to the Atlantic Ocean. The synod assists congregations and rostered leaders with their functioning as a congregation, providing resources, guidance and oversight to many areas of congregational life.
